Hi, Michele,
Trying to install mu11r2 I noticed:
When you offer many editor choices (I think in Mutt configuration) I choose ae, the only one an old DOS man like me could learn how to use. The setup script didn't agree with me and refuse to let me select this editor.
I had to choose elvis (argh!).
In eth0 setup you show the option of 3C90x adapter but there is no 3C90x.o available to insmod and setup didn't install any module.
In http://www.scyld.com/network/vortex.html, where are the network drivers writen by Don Becker, you can see, under 3c59x.c driver:

Products Supported
This page contains Linux device drivers and information on the 3Com "Vortex", "Boomerang", "Cyclone", "Hurricane", and
"Tornado" series Ethercards. This covers all 3c590 series (3c592, 3c595, and 3c597) and 3c900 series (3c900, 3c905,
3c980 and 3c450) Ethernet adapters. The driver also supports all 3Com CardBus and mini-PCI adapters such as the 3c555,
556 655, 656 and 3c575.
Other Drivers
Several alternative driver implementations are available in addition to the base 3c59x driver described by this page.
3Com Vendor-supported driver
In September 1999 3Com released a driver for the 3c905B and 3c905C series. This driver is named 3c90x.c. It was written
in-house at 3Com, and is available under the GPL from. http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/linux.htm
We are very pleased that 3Com is now providing full vendor support for their hardware. Note that 3c90x.c supports only
current and recent production PCI boards sold under the 3Com brand name. The driver described on this page, named
3c59x.c, supports all generations of PCI boards, as well as CardBus, OEM editions and mini-PCI variations. See the complete
list below.

In other words: 3c90x driver work only for 3c90x adapters. 3c59x driver works for 3c59x and most of 3c90x.
So, for 3c90x you should insmod 3c59x.o
I tried this and my 3C900B-TPO is working fine.
Beautifull setup interface. I'm a happy newbie now!
Good job, as usual.
Renato
