FreeDOS Beta 2 | Errata
The FreeDOS "Beta 2" Distribution has a
few issues. Sorry about that. Every distribution has a few
problems. I intend to fix these in the next FreeDOS
Distribution, whenever that is ready.
Broken
- The FreeDOS kernel that is used on the install boot floppy is a
more recent version than the one included in the ker1932x package.
The install floppy uses kernel v. 1.0 beta 2, and the package is kernel
v. 1.0 beta 1.
- The Command.com that is used on the install boot floppy is not
the same Command.com that is included in the distribution.
- The Fdisk program on the install boot floppy seems to be
broken. A different Fdisk will be used in the Beta 2.1 distribution.
- The Format program on the install boot floppy generates a
Can't format a network drive error. This is probably due
to an incompatibility with Format and the FreeDOS kernel.
- Corrupt zip files may cause the install program to abort.
- Many packages were not up-to-date with the versions listed on
the FreeDOS Maintainers Lists.
Seem Broken, But Aren't
- The description for the ker1932x package is confusing: it should
actually say that the fix for large drives will appear in the kernel
beta 2 release, not the FreeDOS "Beta 2" release.
- After the install,
you need to be in the C:\FDOS\BIN\KERNEL directory
before you try to create a FreeDOS boot floppy. Otherwise, the
bat file can't find DITU.
Changes with Beta 2.0.1
- The LANG disk series was dropped for 2.0.1. This disk
series will appear, with changes, in Beta 3. For now, the install
floppy was not updated to drop support for the LANG series,
so you will get a warning if you try to install it.
