I will set normally with
route add default gw <address> <interface>

I have, therefore, to remove any help messages about NETWORK, NETMASK usage?
Dangerous.

I'm not sure if will happens problems, with more active interface. Not

My plan is to allow a home network of PCs using a mixed cabling serial/plip,
without ethernet. It is possible?

I'm reading the "Subnetworking" and "Bridge+Firewall" mini Howto: it
seems things are a more complex compared what we are telling.
