A nmbd/smbd is not required, really. You need basically of "insmod smbfs",
and the "smbmount" program:

                # smbmount '//host/service' /samba

The problem is the "host" part: it requires the correct NETBIOS name
of the sharing workstation. You can check the name with:

                # smbclient -L "host" -U "user"

You can helps adding the -I option

                # smbmount ... -I ip-of-host ....

If the service requires authentication:

                # smbmount .... -U user -P password
