This is my "free" file (9r1):
==========================================
BOOT=600, ROOT=550, USR=576, Total 1722
0 k-bytes (uncompressed) free.
==========================================
Your BOOT is enourmous: it is in tree/startup. Did you changed
kernel?
Sorry: I checked. I've no problem with "mu -u; mu -r"

When I rebuild 9r1, I see:
====================================================
e2fsck 1.10, 24-Apr-97 for EXT2 FS 0.5b, 95/08/09
BOOT.raw: clean, 33/152 files, 585/596 blocks
====================================================
Do you are using some new e2fsprog release? If we got definitely
problems with installed program, I've to parametrize the "Mu"
script in the way it can use own program, from tree/.
This happens with lilo and fdformat yet, for example.
